BOL. NIKITSKAYA STREET
Street in the Central Okrug District in Moscow
Bol. Nikitskaya Street is in between Manezhnaya Square and Kudrinskaya Square. The street was named after Nikitskii Convent, which was located on the street in front of the metro station. The street has existed since the 15th century but was developed at the end of the 16th century. In 192o, the street was renamed after writer A.I. Herzen but was given back its historical name in 1994. In 1997, the main part of the street buildings from Nikitsky Gate Square to the Garden Ring was included in the protected area “Povarskaya – Bolshaya Nikitskaya.”
