GORCHARNAIA STREET
Street in the Tagansky District of the Central Administrative Okrug of Moscow
Gorcharnaia Street runs from the Bolshoy Vatin Lane to Taganskaya Square and is connected to embankments on the Moscow River. Gorcharnaia used to be home to a settlement specializing in pottery production. The pottery workshops were first uncovered in 1948 when digging for new construction.
The fire of 1812 destroyed Gorcharnaia Street, halting the production of any multi-level buildings until 1917. In 1918, the street was renamed “Volodarsky” Street. In 1935, the general plan for the reconstruction of Moscow made Gorchanaia the primary radial street, however, this plan was never implemented.
