BUILDING OF THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND TRADE

Architects: V.G. Gelfreich and M.A. Minkus

1948-1953

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade building is meant to resemble the Woolworth Building in New York City. The central part of the building is 27 floors high, and at 114 meters of the building, there is a concrete USSR code of arms. The Foreign Ministry building is the only one of the seven skyscrapers without a five-pointed star on the top of the spire, as the initial spire construction was rushed and considered too fragile to hold any more weight. In 2016, the spire was replaced and replicated in black and stainless steel.
