APARTMENT BUILDING ON KOTELNICHESKAIA EMBANKMENT 1/15

Architects: Dmitry Chechulin and Andrey Rostkovsky

1948-1952

The Apartment Building on Kotelnicheskaia Embankment 1/15 is located on the Yauza and Mockva rivers, and towers along both the Kotelnicheskaia and Podgorskaia Embankments. The central tower has 32 floors, and the height of its spire is 176 m. The side buildings only have 8/10 floors and the whole structure initially housed 540 apartments. The construction was backed by GULAG prisoners, who lived in a camp directly on construction premises called “Camp Department No. 4.” As the skyscrapers were being built, living access was granted to elites only, and Apartment Building on Kotelnicheskaia Embankment 1/15 remains just as prestigious and expensive in the 21st century.
