Aeroport Metro Station 

Located on the Zamoskvoretskaia Line

The Aeroport Metro Station is located under Leningradsky Prospekt between the Sokol and Dynamo stations. The station opened on September 11, 1938, as part of the Sverdlov (Teatralnaya) – Sokol Square. It was named after the Central Moscow Airfield, and is the only station that is a single-vault station. The plan to build a metro line running near the airfield,  and the Aeroport station was to be the final station. However, the Sokol metro station became the final station instead. The Aeroport metro station was built using the open-pit method, The vestibules were built into two residential buildings, and erected at the same time as the station. In the design of the station, the architects tried to express the theme of Soviet aviation.
