FRUNZE EMBANKMENT
Located on the Left Bank of the Moscow River
The Frunzeskaia (Frunze) Embankment is in the Khamovniki District of the Central Administrative Okrug of Moscow. The embankment rests between the Kyrmsky and the Andreevsky Bridges. The name Frunze is derived from Soviet military leader M.Z. Frunze, though at one point the embankment was known as Khamovnicheskaya Embankment. The Khamovnicheskaya Embankment project was built as a city passage to Kamer-Kollezhsky Val. In 1950, a plan for the reconstruction of the embankment, developed by architects Ya. V. Belopolsky, E. N. Stamo and N. Ya. Ulas, was approved. The renovation would widen the embankment to 50 meters and divide it into six blocks. There would be 40 large multi-story buildings, seven schools, sports grounds, and landscaping.
