HOTEL “LENINGRAD”

Architects: Leonid Polyakov and Alexander Boretsky.

1949 – 1954

Hotel Leningrad is the smallest of the seven skyscrapers, and was officially opened to the public in 1953.  The initial construction of this building planned for 349 rooms. The cost of the hotel, and the few amount of rooms led to much criticism of Soviet style architecture. Hotel Leningrad’s exterior is heavily influenced by medieval russian style, especially the red, white and gold paintwork which is reminiscent of the favorite colors of ancient Russian architecture. The hotel became privatized in the early 2000s, and was eventually restored and reopened under the name Hilton Moscow Leningradskaya in 2008.
