STATE SECURITY (KGB) BUILDING
The building on Lubianka Square in Mosocw is also known as the main building of the state security agencies of the USSR (KGB). The building was built by architects Nikolai Proskurnin, Alexander Ivanov, and Viktor Velichkin. After the October Revolution, the building was controlled by the All-Russian Extraordinary Commission. In 1932-1933, architects completed the building on the side of Furkasovsky Lane. In 1944-1948, architect Alexei Shchuse began a complete reconstruction of the buildings to expand and unite the disparate buildings with a single facade. Thanks to the activities of government agencies operating in the building, “Lubyanka” has become a household word.
