Pokrovka Street runs from Armyanskii Lane to Zemlianoi Val Square and is a continuation of The street is named after the Church of the Intercession of the Mother of God, which was built at the beginning of Maroseyka Street. In 1940, Pokrovka was renamed Chernyshevsky Street to commemorate a writer. A monument to Chernyshevsky was erected on Pokrovskie Vorota Square, through which the street passes. In 1992, when central Moscow streets returned to their historical names, Chernyshevsky Street was again renamed Pokrovka.
