KOSMODAMIANSKAIA EMBANKMENT

Located on the Moscow River

Kosmodamianskaia Embankment is in the Zamoskvorechye District of the Central Administrative Okrug in Moscow. The embankment lies between the Bolshoy Ustinksy and the Shlyuzovy Bridge. In 1935, three embankments (Kosmodamianskaya, Komissariatskaya, and Krasnokholmskaya) were combined into one; however, three years later, upon completion of the Bolshoi Krasnokholmsky Bridge, the canal separating Krasnye Kholmy from the island between the Moskva River and the canal was filled in. When the historical name was returned in 1993, it was taken into account that Kosmodamianskaya is the oldest of the three.
